Communist Marxist Party (CMP) leader K.R. Aravindakshan has urged veteran Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI (M)] V.S. Achuthanandan to quit the party and lead the various breakaway groups of the CPI (M).
“Mr. Achuthanandan has been opposed by the CPI (M) leadership on various issues and has thereby reached a point where he is compelled to function against his individual stance. He must consider leading the splinter groups for the rest of his political career,” Mr. Aravindakshan said at a press conference here on Saturday.
He said the Kerala Congress (M) was assured no additional seats to contest during the time of the merger with the erstwhile faction that was led by P.J. Joseph. The United Democratic Front (UDF) leadership had then maintained that the responsibility of the merger lay entirely upon party leader K.C. Mani. Mr. Aravindakshan, however, added that both Kerala Congress (M) and Socialist Janata (Democratic) had the right to demand more seats. He said the alleged efforts of the Congress to create rifts within the constituent parties would backfire on the party.

He demanded that the State government issue an ordinance that called for removing anti-farmer recommendations of the Kasturirangan report on Western Ghats.
