May 11, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:45 am IST - Thrissur:

Launching a broadside at Sonia Gandhi, BJP president Amit Shah on Tuesday alleged that the entire country knew about the Congress leader’s affinity to scams. He was addressing an election rally of A.N. Radhakrishnan, the BJP candidate in Manalur, here.

Hitting back at Ms.Gandhi’s emotional speech about patriotism, Mr. Shah said: “What the Congress president feels is her love for her son and her love for National Herald not love for the country.”

“Ms. Gandhi alleges that the BJP is trying to trap her. We haven’t tried to trap her. She doesn’t have to turn emotional when we say those involved in corruption will not be spared,” he said.

UPA rule

Alleging that Ms. Gandhi was controlling Prime Minister Manmohan Singh by remote control, Mr. Shah said the 10 years of UPA rule was marred by corruption in all sectors. Listing various scams including, 2G, Commonwealth, AgustaWestland and coal, he said the sky, land, and even underground were not spared. The Congress-led UDF government in Kerala was also under the shadow of many corruption allegations, including palmolein, Travancore Titanium, bar and solar. And the LDF was supporting it, the BJP president said.

Alleges tie-up

The LDF and the UDF were accusing each other of tie-up with the BJP.

“In fact both the LDF and the UDF are in an unholy nexus. As the BJP chief, I am saying that the NDA will not have any tie-up with the LDF or the UDF. At the same time, I am challenging the LDF and the UDF to promise that they will not have any kind of tie-up after the election.”

r. Shah urged the people to give an opportunity for the BJP to develop Kerala.
