Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said here on Monday that action would be taken in accordance to law if enquiry report confirmed that former Minister R. Balakrishna Pillai, who is undergoing imprisonment, had violated prison rules by using mobile phone.

The report of the Additional Director General of Police, who is enquiring into the phone conversations made by Mr. Pillai to a television reporter and others, would be received on Tuesday. (Mr. Pillai is currently undergoing treatment in a private hospital as a prisoner.)

The Chief Minister said that he was not aware of his aides receiving calls from Mr. Pillai on the day a teacher of his school at Valakam near Kottarakkara was attacked. The police would find the truth about the attack.

According to media reports, the victim was not very cooperative when the police took his testimony. On the High Court observation that V. S. Achuthanandan had ignored allegations against him and his office while referring the case against his son to the Lok Ayukta as Chief Minister early this year, Mr. Chandy said that the observation only confirmed what he had been saying before.

However, he was not demanding the resignation of Mr. Achuthanandan as Opposition Leader now. “Resignation is not a solution to the issue. What is important is the unraveling of the truth.” It was up to the Minister for Revenue and Vigilance Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan to decide whether he should order a vigilance enquiry against the former Chief Minister.

In the written petition submitted to the government when he (Mr. Chandy) was the Opposition Leader, he had mentioned the allegations against the then Chief Minister Mr. Achuthanandan and his office besides allegations against his son Arun Kumar.

However, Mr. Achuthanandan chose to refer only the allegations against his son to the Lok Ayukta. This was when the Ayukta had no powers to enquire into allegations against his son. Other allegations were ignored.

He had submitted the petition upon Mr. Achuthanandan promising that an enquiry would be ordered by an agency of his (Mr. Chandy’s) choice.
