Come Friday evening, the tabletop tourist spot at Kottakkunnu here will witness a gathering of mothers for the sake of the differently abled.
There will be mothers of special children as well who will share their experiences with others.
The District Administration is organising the get-together in association with the Rehabilitation Institute for Cognitively and Communicatively Challenged (RICCCH), a service-oriented non-profit organisation offering care and expertise for the differently abled. District Collector Amit Meena said here on Saturday that the gathering from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. would be titled ‘Amma Nilavu’ and will be an attempt to make May 11 the Special Mothers Day.

“May 13 is International Mothers Day. We want to make May 11 Special Mothers Day,” said Mr. Meena. The Parivaar, a national body of the parents of the differently abled, has lent its support to the move. “We need to expand the horizons of awareness about differently abled and their needs,” said Mr. Meena.
“Awareness should not be limited to the parents of the differently abled. Everyone in the society should know what it means to be a differently abled person. We will be able to make some meaningful change only if the society at large gets the real awareness about the differently abled,” said Vadakkethil Hamza, chairman of RICCCH.

Film actor Sharat Das will be a guest at the mothers’ gathering.
Flautist Rajesh Cherthala will entertain the crowds with his mesmerising skills on flute. P. Ubaidulla, MLA, will inaugurate the function. District panchayat vice president Sakeena Pulpadan will preside.
