The Rubber Board is organising a one-day training programme for rubber product manufacturers on the newly-introduced REACH regulation and its interpretations at the Rubber Training Institute here on September 7.

REACH is the new European Community Regulation on chemicals and their safe use in rubber industries. The manufacturers and exporters of rubber products and chemicals to the European Union will have to abide by the regulation.

REACH has regulatory powers to deal with registration, evaluation, authorisation and restriction of chemical substances. The aim of REACH is to improve the protection to human health and environment. It includes early and accurate identification of the intrinsic properties of chemical substances used in various production processes. This regulation imposes greater responsibility on the industries to manage the risk from chemicals and to provide safety information about the substances used.
