Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan has said that Kerala will become the first `totally electrified’ State in the country by 2011.

Declaring the Alathur Assembly constituency as ‘totally electrified’ at a function in Mangalam Dam Centre here on Saturday the Chief Minister said that every household in the State will have electricity and drinking water by 2011.
All the landless and houseless people of the State will also get them in another two years, he added.
These are the next major steps being implemented by the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government after the revolutionary land reforms and `total literacy’ programmes in the State.

He said with Alathur becoming ‘totally electrified’ a total of 13 Assembly constituencies in the State have achieved this ‘totally electrified’ constituency status.
Palakkad to become first totally electrified district
In another two months Palakkad will become the first ‘totally electrified’ district of the State, he said.
The Chief Minister said that while the State government is trying to provide power to each household in the State the Central Electricity Act brought by the Central government is trying to bifurcate Electricity Boards into different companies. This is an attempt to privatize the power sector.
But the State government is opposed to the bifurcation of the Board into different companies. It wanted the Kerala State Electricity Board to remain as one company. Thus the State government will oppose the move to privatize the Electricity Boards, he said.
