Steps to check smuggling of narcotics, liquor

Senior officials of the Excise Department and the Tamil Nadu police held a meeting at Bamboo Grove at Kumily on Wednesday and prepared an action plan to prevent smuggling of narcotics and liquor from across the border during Onam.

The meeting between the officials also decided to hand over details of criminals who migrate to the State after committing crimes in Tamil Nadu.

Intensify checking

The Tamil Nadu police will also intensify checking of vehicles passing through border roads.

There is now increased traffic of vehicles carrying vegetables and other items from Tamil Nadu.

In such cirumstances, there will be more checking by the Tamil Nadu police in addition to the routine check at the check-posts at the border.

Excise Assistant Commissioner K.A. Nelson led the Excise team while the Tamil Nadu police were represented by a team led by Additional Superintendent of Police Padmavathy.
