The Kerala Irrigation Department has served notice on P.V. Sreenijin, son-in-law of National Human Rights Commission Chairman K.G. Balakrishnan, asking him to vacate its land at Kallur in Mukundapuram taluk on the banks of the Chalakudy river.
On a complaint filed by George Vattukulam, president of the Malayalavedi, revenue officials surveyed the land and confirmed that Mr. Sreenijin had encroached upon it.
The Mukundapuram tahsildar asked the Department to take steps to recover the land. The assistant engineer, Irrigation, Chalakudy, served notice on Mr. Sreenijin on July 29 asking him to remove all constructions on the encroached land within seven days. In his complaint to the tahsildar and the Executive Engineer (Irrigation) last February, Mr. Vattukulam alleged that Mr. Sreenijin had encroached on more than 30 cents of the department land. The encroached land was adjacent to a plot owned by Mr. Sreenijin, the complaint said.

“Mr. Sreenijin had converted the encroached land into a park and built steps leading to the river,” Mr. Vattukulam said. He was planning to move court seeking the arrest of Mr. Sreenijin.
Mr. Sreenijin also faces allegations of amassing wealth disproportionate to the known sources of his income.
