State school should be viewed as occasion for expression of students' creativity: Minister
Minister for Education C. Ravindranath said here on Monday that the State school festival beginning here in January should be viewed as a festival of creativity and not as a venue for competitions.
Speaking at a meeting to review the arrangements for the State school arts festival, the Minister said as the participants of the school festival were talented youngsters with creative gifts, the event should be seen as an occasion to participate in the cultural festival to give vent to their creativity. Unhealthy tendencies crop up when victory in the competitions alone was viewed as the most important goal, he said.

Mr. Ravindranath said changes had been introduced in the conduct of the events and their judgement to ensure that the 57th State school fete was flawless. Green protocol would be strictly adhered to, he said. The events during the festival would be staged at 20 venues, he said expressing satisfaction over the functioning of the 20 sub-committees formed for organising the event. He also urged the committees to ensure that information about the events at different venues will be available at each venue. The Minister said the district administration was developing an app that could provide all information relating to the festival and events.
A festival proclamation procession would be held here at 4 p.m. on Janauary 12, announced Ports Minister Kadannappally Ramachandran, who is also the organising committee chairman.
The Education Minister released the theme song of the event. He also released the brochure of the festival by giving a copy to district panchayat president K.V. Sumesh. Thousand ink pens to be used at the venues as part of the green protocol were handed over to the Minister by Kannur Corporation Standing Committee chairperson P. Indira.

The review meeting was attended by MLAs James Mathew, T.V. Rajesh and A.N. Shamseer, Corporation Mayor E.P. Latha, Director of Public Instructions Mohan Kumar, Higher Secondary Director Director M.S. Jaya, District Collector Mir Mohammed Ali and District Police Chief K.P. Philip.
