Several new voters for Assembly by-poll

The Alappuzha Assembly constituency, comprising the 50 wards of the Alappuzha Municipality, will have 6,190 new voters for the November 7 Assembly by-poll, taking the total number of voters to 1,14,000.

According to an official release, there were 1,08,293 voters, including 56,017 females and 52,276 males, as per the draft roll. As many as 2,588 males and 3,602 females, a total of 6,190, have been added to the final roll after deleting 483 voters from the draft roll.

Official sources said there were 9,140 applications for new voters, out of which 3,950 were rejected for want of proper supporting documents. As per the final roll that was published on Wednesday, there are 59,350 female voters and 54,650 male voters.

Meanwhile, the scrutiny of the nominations submitted by 12 candidates was conducted here on Thursday. Two of them, that of LDF dummy candidate Elgin Richards and UDF dummy candidate Gopalakrishnan, were rejected, leaving 10 candidates in the fray as of now. Six of these, including two namesakes, one each for UDF candidate A.A. Shukoor and LDF candidate G. Krishnaprasad, are independents.

Saturday is the last date for withdrawal of nominations, after which the final pre-poll picture will be available.
