The Kerala Private Medical College Managements Association has expressed hope that it will convince the Supreme Court that there would not be enough students in the rank list published by the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations (CEE) to fill the management seats in its affiliated colleges.
Reacting to the Supreme Court's decision not to stay the Kerala High Court's verdict declaring void and inoperative the entrance test conducted by the association on May 30 for admission to the management seats in 11 self-financing medical colleges under it, Fazal Gafoor, president of the association, said here on Monday that the apex court had given them 10 days time to check whether it would be possible to get students from the rank list published by the CEE for filling the management seats.
He said the association representatives will meet here on Tuesday to chalk out the steps to be taken in the wake of the verdict given by the Supreme Court. Stating that the verdict given by the apex court was difficult to implement, Dr. Gafoor said even the Muslim minority colleges affiliated to the association would not be able to admit students belonging to their community, if the verdict was implemented.

Pointing out that the students in the CEE's list would not be able to pay Rs.5.5 lakh annual tuition fee for getting admission under the management seats, Dr. Gafoor said the association was confident of convincing the apex court about the ground realities in the State. He said the association could not agree to the view that self-financing colleges in the State did not have the rights to admit students even in the management quota.
