The CBI Special Court on Wednesday granted bail to Pinarayi Vijayan, Communist Party of India (Marxist) Polit Bureau member and the seventh accused in the SNC-Lavalin case.
K.G. Rajasekaran Nair, the second accused in the case, was also given bail by K.P. Jyothindranath, Special Judge (CBI). The court posted the case to April 23, 2010.
The case relates to the alleged irregularities in awarding the contract for the modernisation of the Pallivasal, Sengulam and Panniar hydroelectric projects to the Canada-based company SNC-Lavalin.

Mr Vijayan personally appeared before the court on Wednesday.
The court ordered that the accused be released on executing a bond of Rs.2 lakh with two solvent sureties.
The court had earlier released five other accused — K. Mohanachandran, R. Sivadasan, Siddhartha Menon, Kasturiranga Iyer and A. Francis — on bail. Though the Lavalin official Claus Trendl and Lavalin company were issued summons earlier, they had not accepted it.

The accused were neither present nor represented when the case was considered.
The summons issued to them were also not returned. Hence, the court directed that the summons should be repeated and returnable by April 23, 2010.
