Minister for Public Works P.J.Joseph has said that the State's road development was not on an equal foot in comparison with the spurt in the number of vehicles plying on the roads.
Inaugurating a Rs. 10-crore road development project for Thodupuzha municipality in Thodupuzha on Monday, the minister said that the density of vehicles on Kerala roads has been increasing every year and that better quality roads are required in Kerala to considerably reduce the maintenance work. For this, improved technology and quality materials should be used for road development works.
The minister said that the road development project in Thodupuzha will help completion of repair works in the existing roads and new road works.

These works include completion of new bridges and widening works of culverts. The Thenamkunnu Palli -Erakkampuzha bypass is likely to be completed soon. The project includes a four-lane traffic system on the main road and mechanised keeling of all main roads, construction of drainage facilities and widening of bridges. New junctions in Kolanii, Venganur and Karikode will be opened using the fund. It is expected that by developing the new bypass roads, the traffic congestion in the main town would be considerably eased.
