An upper air cyclonic circulation positioned over the Lakshadweep Islands on Thursday holds the promise of fairly widespread rainfall in Kerala during the next two-three days, according to the day’s weather bulletin of India Meteorology Department (IMD).
The IMD also warned of the possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall in isolated areas in the State during the period.
Meanwhile, rainfall deficiency in the State during the monsoon so far has gone up to 14 per cent as on August 19 from 11 per cent a week ago. The State received 1,499 mm of rainfall during the period from June 1 to August 19, against a normal of 1,748 mm, the IMD’s hydrology update said.

District-wise, only Kozhikode is now on the excess side-by nine per cent. Rainfall is very close to normal in Kannur and Palakkad, the deficit being two per cent in both districts, and in Thrissur, where the deficit is three per cent.
All other districts are substantially deficient in rainfall-Thiruvananthapuram by 47 per cent, Kollam by 31 per cent, Pathanamthitta by 23 per cent, Alappuzha by 18 per cent, Kottayam by 27 per cent, Idukki by 19 per cent, Ernakulam by 15 per cent, Malappuram by 18 per cent, Wayanad by 28 per cent and Kasaragod by 20 per cent.
