The police team investigating the Perumbavoor rape-murder case on Thursday collected evidence from Jomon Puthenpuracal with regard to his allegations that a senior politician had a key role in the incident.
Appearing before Additional Director General of Police B. Sandhya, who heads the investigation team in Aluva, Mr. Puthenpurackal reiterated his earlier statement and said the police complaint against him was a conspiracy hatched by an aide to the said politician, with a few police officers.
“The session lasted for nearly 10 hours, during which I also handed over evidence on the links between the victim’s mother and the politician, which both of them could not refute,” he told media persons.

He said a police officer, who had helped the senior politician, was part of the new investigation team as well.
Meanwhile, the police team has prepared a new sketch of the suspected assailant. The sketch, prepared on the basis of statements given by the victim’s neighbours, who had reportedly seen a person moving around the area under suspicious circumstances soon after the incident, describes the suspect as a slim-built person with a height of around 5.7 ft. The officials, however, were not available for confirming its authenticity.
Last month, the police released a sketch of the accused, based on inputs received by the previous investigation team.

Sources said the investigation was focussed on three persons who reportedly gave contradicting statements in the initial stage of the investigation. The police are also in the process of verifying the phone calls made from areas in and around Perumbavoor on the fateful day.
