Pinarayi has lost control over police: Chennithala

AKG Centre controlling administration in State, says Leader of Opposition

Leader of the Opposition Ramesh Chennithala has said that the State police was running amok as Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, who handles the Home portfolio, has lost control over the force. “The State is in such a pass that the Home Minister himself says that the State police remains an undisciplined force,” he said.

Mr. Chennithala said this while addressing a gathering in front of the Head Post Office here on Sunday to conclude the 48-hour dharna there organised by the Kollam District Congress committee demanding that the LDF honour its election time promise of reopening the public sector cashew factories that are lying closed since months.

Mr. Chennithala said that if the police force is seen to be undisciplined, it is the duty of Mr. Vijayan as Home Minister to take corrective steps. But Mr. Vijayan is admitting failure when it comes to this. A responsible Home Minister will take action against erring police officers instead of blaming the entire force, he said.

'Police force politicised'

The CPI(M) has an agenda of politicising the police force and this spells danger for the State, said Mr. Chennithala who was the Home Minister under the previous UDF government.

He alleged that the administration of the State has been shifted from the Secretariat to the AKG Centre. For the past two months files are not moving in the Secretariat because of delay in decisions from the AKG Centre.

Nothing except politically motivated transfers was happening in the administration sector of the State.

Within two months the Pinarayi government has proved that it is a failure on all fronts.

“Those who came with the slogan that everything will be solved were able to only solve the issue of V.S. Achuthanandan,” he said.

'UDF reforms shelved'

The administrative reforms initiated by the previous UDF government have been shelved and instead Mr. Achuthanandan was given that responsibility only with the sole intention of finding solutions to the wrangles within the CPI(M), Mr. Chennithala alleged.

Except for squandering money from the exchequer, the post which Mr. Achuthanandan occupies will serve no other purpose, he said.

Minister for Cashew Industry J. Mercykutty Ammma should show some ‘mercy’ to the cashew workers who are in dire straits. The dharna was presided over by the DCC president Kodikunnil Suresh.
