Palakkad tops in milk production

The district has topped in milk production in the State producing 622.14 lakh litres in 2009-10, registering a growth rate of 13.98 per cent.

The milk production in the district in 2007-08 was 498.28 lakh litres (2.66 per cent growth rate). In 2008-09 the production was 545.84 lakh litres ( 9.54 per cent growth rate).

Besides the efforts of the 300-odd dairy cooperative societies in the district, the development of Elappully grama panchayat as the Dairy Village, the Nature-Fresh Milk Project of Kannadi grama panchayat and the Attappady Goat Farm helped the district achieve the distinction.
