The Pampa Parirakshana Samiti (PPS), an eco group campaigning for the cause of river Pampa for the past 25 years, has decried Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa for taking up the controversial Pampa-Achenckovil-Vaipar River Link Project (PAVRLP) with Prime Minister Narendra Modi as part of her 29-point charter of demands.

In a statement issued here on Thursday, PPS general secretary N.K. Sukumaran Nair alleged that the State government had failed to take any proper steps to protect the interest of the State at a time when Tamil Nadu was trying its level best to implement the project by exerting pressure on the Union government.

He said the project, if implemented, would eventually lead to serious drinking water crisis in the Central Travancore region and Kuttanad.
