Though the monsoon rain has taken a break in the district, number of fever cases reported from various hospitals is still high in Thrissur.
According to official statistics, 1,308 cases were reported in the district on Tuesday, of which 52 were admitted to various hospitals.
However, according to health officials, this number is less than the previous year.

Most of the patients visiting the hospitals complained of high fever, body ache, sore throat with cough and runny nose.
Three dengue fever cases and nine chicken pox cases were also reported from various areas in the district on Tuesday. High fever, body ache, rashes, chills, dehydration and nausea are the main symptoms of dengue fever. The aedes aegypti mosquito, which spreads dengue fever, breeds in fresh water.
Fluctuation in temperature and humidity make the atmosphere conducive for the spread of diseases. Clogged drains, piling up of garbage, lack of public awareness on anti-mosquito measures have aggravated the situation.

Health officials have cautioned people against self-medication. People should be careful against water-borne diseases such as typhoid, cholera and hepatitis. Drinking water should be used after boiling, they alerted.
Meanwhile, the Health Department has been conducting medical camps for Malaria and other infectious diseases for migrant labourers at regular intervals. Chlorination of water bodies and awareness programmes have also been conducted.
