A two-member inquiry team from the A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technological University (KTU) on Tuesday visited the Nehru College of Engineering and Research Centre at Pampady, Thrissur, as part of a fact-finding mission into the death of Jishnu Pranoy, a student of the college. The, team which comprised Registrar G.P. Padmakumar and Controller of Examinations S. Shabu, collected statements from the principal, vice principal, faculty members who were involved in the examination process, and students.
Dr. Shabu said the university had not received any report regarding examination malpractice by the student. “As per usual practice, institutions are supposed to report information regarding malpractices though an online system on the same day of the alleged incident. However, we did not receive any such information in this case,” he told The Hindu .
He said the findings, which included varying views, would be consolidated to prepare a comprehensive report. It would be submitted to the government through the Vice Chancellor at the earliest, he said.

Interacts with students
Informed sources said the KTU officials interacted with several students on their hostel premises. The move was intended to ensure that they could fearlessly convey their views.
“The students raised allegations regarding the treatment meted out to students by college authorities. There were also allegations regarding a torture room at the college. While some alleged that cruel and harsh methods were usually adopted, they were unable to corroborate their claims with any evidenceNone of the students confided that they were at the receiving end of the alleged harassment,” an official said.

Meanwhile, the Crime Branch has been entrusted with the investigation into the death of Jishnu. Inspector General of Police (Thrissur range) M.R. Ajith Kumar has asked Thrissur Crime Branch Deputy Superintendent of Police Biju K. Stephen to conduct the probe.
