The LDF government put a stop to land encroachments in the district, said Finanace Minister T.M.Thomas Issac.

Addressing a public meeting held in connection with the celebration of the fourth anniversary of the State government here on Saturday, he said the special task force employed for removing the encroachers has been well-received by the people of the district.

The minister said that title deeds would be issued on 28,000 hectors of land without any condition and the government is now considering if there are any legal problems related with this. For the first time, he said that both the revenue and forest departments joined together to issue documents to the adivasis under the forest rights act.

“While the powerful and the rich encroached land in Mathikettan the UDF government did nothing but protected them. It was the UDF government that set the condition for assigning land to the farmers. The focus of the LDF government is to make the land transferable and allow the farmers to pay the tax,” Mr. Issac said.

He said that title deeds to the 10,000 farmers have been issued and another 20,000 will be cleared in two months. He said that assigning land to the farmers has been done and all legal hurdles have been cleared. However, conflicted land currently held by Tata would be brought under government control, he said. Devaswom Minister Kadanappally Ramachandran also spoke at the function. E.S.Bijimol MLA and K.K.Jayachandran MLA were present.
