Muthoot murder: Youth Congress march turns violent

A Youth Congress activist pleads for mercy as policemen lathi charge protesters who took out a march demanding a re-postmortem of Paul Muthoot's body in Alappuzha on Saturday.

A march taken out by the Youth Congress on Saturday, demanding a re-post-mortem of Paul Muthoot George’s body, turned violent after the protesters tried to barge into the T.D. Medical College at Vandanam near here.

The Youth Congress alleged that the police surgeon, who conducted the post-mortem on Paul’s body on August 22, had hidden facts that could throw more light on the mystery surrounding the murder. The activists took out

the march from the Medical College Hospital to the Medical College on the adjoining campus. When they forcibly tried to cross over the security barricades, the police began a lathi-charge during which at least seven of the workers were injured. Highway-47, shouting slogans against the police and blocking vehicles, resulting in a traffic jam.

The situation was still tense and the injured were being shifted to hospital when reports last came in.
