Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee president Ramesh Chennithala on Saturday criticised the Communist Party of India (Marxist) State secretary Pinarayi Vijayan for his attempts to interfere in the course of police investigation in the Muthoot Paul murder case.
Mr. Chennithala told reporters that it was extraordinary for a leader of a political party to hold media conferences time and again in connection with the investigation into a murder case unless he had some other motives.
Mr. Chennithala said Mr. Vijayan's attempts to implicate senior Congress leaders was nothing but a dubious move to divert people’s attention from the public debate on the “unholy nexus” between the CPI(M), police and underworld dons.

He said the block committees of the Congress would hold "Shathi Yatras" to expose this.
He alleged that during the last three years that the LDF had been in power, as many as 32 attacks on police stations had taken place and local CPI(M) leaders were involved in various kinds of violence, including release of accused persons. More than 80 police officials had been injured in such assaults, he said, quoting official figures.
