The Kerala government on Tuesday said it would take steps to promote Malayalam among children of non-resident Keralites.

A large number of Keralites live in foreign countries. The activities of the Malayalam Mission would be extended to places across the globe where there is a sizable concentration of Malayali emigrants, Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan said at an award function here.

“The ability to speak and write in one’s mother tongue is an important factor for balanced personality development,” he said.
