Magic to create environmental awareness

The Department of Forests and Magic Academy will jointly organise a special magic show on the banks of the Bharatapuzha near Ottappalam on March 13 to create environmental awareness.

Titled ‘Nilackai…’, it will be prelude to a serious of shows to be held in the districts from August 1 to 14 in connection with the International Biodiversity Year.

Forest Minister Benoy Viswam and magician Gopinath Muthucaud of the Academy told the media here on Tuesday that ‘Nilackai…’ would be based on the poem

Bhoomikkoru Charamageetham , written as an Elegy for dying Earth by O. N. V. Kurup. It would draw attention to the dismal state of Bharatapuzha which once had plenty of water.

They said that shows would be held in August at two venues in each district. The theme would cover a wide range of issues while the inaugural show would focus on Bharatapuzha (also called Nila). Assembly speaker K. Radhakrishnan would inaugurate the show at a function to be presided by local Member of the Assembly, M. Hamsa.
