Kerala Students Union (KSU) vandalised the chamber of the Kannur University Vice-Chancellor P.K. Michael Tharakan on the Mangattuparamba campus here on Wednesday after they barged into the room to protest against the reported loss of answer sheets from the campus.
The protestors stormed into the office of the Vice-Chancellor at around 9-55 a.m. and gheraoed him for nearly two hours. During the protest the slogan-shouting protestors led by district KSU president M. Rinjumol and State vice-president Rijul Makutty tore to pieces files and papers kept on the Vice-Chancellors desk in the chamber.
University officials said that the five important files and a few academic papers on the table were torn to pieces by the protestors. Furniture items in the office were also damaged by the protestors, they said.

The protesting KSU workers gave vent to their anger when police personnel entered the chamber. After he asked the police to leave the chamber, Prof. Tharakan held talks with the protestors and assured them to take appropriate steps on the issue of loss of answer sheets.
The university Senate meeting scheduled to be held in the morning was delayed because of the protest. The Vice-Chancellor said at the meeting that the proposals for modernising conduct of university examinations were accepted. The meeting also decided to improve Ph.D programmes of the university.
