Providing a vital breakthrough in a case in connection with the looting of nearly 500 grams of gold and four kg of silver ornaments from a jewellery shop at Kundamkuzhi in Bedakam village here, the police have arrested two persons who formed part of an inter-State gang.
A team led by Adhur circle inspector Sibi Thomas arrested Shereef alias ‘Mookan Shereef,’ from Anangoor here, and Neth Ram of Dhanpur in Uttar Pradesh’s Badaun district.
The police are on the lookout for four more persons, including a woman, in connection with the burglary committed in the early hours of October 4.

The police could recover only a small number of stolen silver articles from the arrested persons who had been staying at a rented house at Anangoor from where they plotted to loot the jewellery outlet, Mr. Thomas said.
The duo, who was produced at a court in Kanhangad on Monday, under provisions of IPC Sections 457 (trespass), 380 (theft), 201 (destroying evidence), 120 B (conspiracy), 212 (harbouring offender), and remanded to two weeks’ judicial custody.
The four absconding persons were believed to have fled to Uttar Pradesh.

Vehicle impounded
The gangsters used electric and gas cutters to break open the shutters of the outlet run by Gold Merchants Association district secretary K. Ashokan Nair around 3 a.m. The police also impounded the vehicle used by the gang members, assisted by Shereef.
The arrest of the duo has provided vital leads to the unresolved burglary of the Bank of Baroda branch at Krishnagiri in Tamil Nadu, besides looting of jewellery outlets in West Bengal, Bihar, and Uttar Pradesh, the senior police official said.
