The film week in all its grandeur will come to an end in the city with the closing ceremony of the 15th International Film Festival of Kerala, at 6 pm at the Nishagandhi open air auditorium on Friday. In spite of some shortfalls here and there, the organisers have claimed the festival to be a success.
Indian filmmaker Mani Ratnam and actor Suhasini will be the chief guests for the evening. Minister for Education and Culture M. A. Baby will give away the awards under various categories which will be announced during the ceremony. Ministers M. Vijaykumar and C. Divakaran will also be present at the function.
The 15th edition of IFFK offered 207 films under 16 categories in 10 theatres for the delegates along with open forums and interactive sessions with masters of film making including Werner Herzog and T V Chandran. The festival had special packages to promote Asian, African and Latin American films. The festival also paid homage to personalities like Venu Nagavally, Girish Puthenchery, M. G. Radhakrishnan and Adoor Pankajam, who had passed away this year. 14 films were screened under the competition section and the voting lines will be open till 1 pm today for the delegates. It was the first time that IFFK offered SMS reservation and voting facilities for films. Apart from the film screenings, a photography

exhibition named Milestones of Pride at Kanakakkunnu Palace, and seminars on film criticism and epic-cinema relationship were also organised.
The event will conclude with the performance of ‘Samudra’, followed by the screening of the award winning film.
