An indefinite strike by house surgeons at Government Medical College Hospital here continued for the second day on Friday, with their association leaders declaring that the agitation will continue till their demands are met.
Shoaib Nawaz, spokesperson for the association, alleged that the authorities had not yet conceded any of the demands raised by the house surgeons and did not appear to be interested in settling the agitation.
Responding to the call for strike, the nearly 200-odd house surgeons at the hospital kept away from duties.

Mr. Nawaz said the striking house surgeons were not attending to their duties in the intensive care units, the labour room and the casualty wards and warned that the quality of hospital service would worsen in the coming days if the strike was allowed to continue.
A round of discussions held with the Principal on Thursday failed to break the deadlock.
The house surgeons are seeking that they not be burdened with hospital duties that should, in normal course, be left to nurses and lab technicians.

The hospital authorities have, however, said that what the house surgeons were being asked to do were duties that they should be familiar with and part of the training that every medical professional should undergo.
