HC order to compensate victim of dog bite

:The Kerala High Court on Monday upheld a munsif court’s order directing a panchayat in Thrissur district to pay compensation of Rs.30,000 with six per cent interest to the victim of stray dog bite.

The court passed the verdict while dismissing an appeal filed by the Porathissery grama panchayat against a decree of the Irinjalakuda Principal Munsifs Court.

The munsif court order came on a petition filed by Antony.

According to Mr. Antony, he was bitten by a stray dog on June 18, 2003. Since anti-rabies medicine was not available at the Thrissur Government Medical College Hospital, he had to purchase it from Coimbatore at a cost of Rs.14,076 after mobilising the amount from friends and relatives.

He had to spend Rs.20,000 towards medical treatment and other expenses.
