Govt support helped NTC revival: Maran

Union Textile minister Dayanidhi Maran on Saturday said National Textiles Corporation (NTC) has become profitable over the years and the government has been doing everything to help its revival.

Nine companies of the 18 NTC mills modernised have received ISO 9001 certification and exports have touched $ 17.37 billion, he said.

Mr. Maran said NTC has chalked out schemes to train 30 lakh employees in five years, including those in the National Institute of Fashion Technology, Kannur, Kerala.

Mr. Maran was in Thiruvananthapuram to preside over a function to inaugurate a scheme to modernise four textile mills as part of NTC’s project. Launching the scheme, Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan urged the Centre to pay more attention to modernisation of handloom and khadi sectors.
