Fewer womenin the fray

Women candidates constitute only 7.5 per cent of the total number candidates contesting the 2011 Assembly elections in the State.

After the scrutiny of nomination papers, 971 candidates are in the list in 140 constituencies in the State. Of them, only 73 are women.

Among the districts, the largest number of candidates in the fray is Thiruvananthapuram, where 109 candidates are contesting from 14 constituencies. The lowest number of candidates is in Wayanad district, which has a total of 17 candidates contesting in three constituencies.
