Educational standards have risen, says VS

Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan has said that the LDF government had managed to raise the standards of school and university education in the State.

Inaugurating a five-storeyed block of the Cochin University College of Engineering, affiliated to the Cochin University of Science and Technology (Cusat) at Pulinkunnu here on Sunday, Mr. Achuthanandan said the government's policy was to open more educational institutions as per the availability of resources.

The government was committed to providing better educational facilities to the poor and the improvement in the educational standards was part of it, he added.

CUSAT Vice-Chancellor Ramachandran Thekkedath presided over the function. Coir and Cooperation Minister G. Sudhakaran inaugurated the on-campus electrical sub-station while an ultra-modern computer lab too was opened on the occasion, with Kodikunnil Suresh, MP, and Thomas Chandy, MLA, jointly inaugurating the laboratory.

The Rs.8 crore-multi-storeyed building, spread over 50,000 sq.ft. has 15 classrooms and eight laboratories and was constructed by the Central Public Works department.
