A quantum leap in the general education sector is the need of the hour in order to strengthen the social bond and the State’s education sector in general, said Chief Minister, V.S.Achuthanandan.
The Chief Minister was inaugurating the valedictory of the Navathy celebrations of SC Higher Secondary School at Ranni on Monday.
Mr Achuthanandan said the Churches as well as various community-based organisations have played a laudable role in the educational advancement of the State. He said, the initiatives taken by the Church in setting up higher education centres across the State was praiseworthy.

However, there were also attempts to damage the State’s general education sector that had played a key role in ensuring social unity and a steady social progress, at a later stage, he said. The attempt to view educational institutions as part of one or the other community was not a healthy trend, he added.
Mr Achuthanandan said the negative attitude developing towards educational institutions in the government sector as well as the unaided sector would only lead to some sort of a social polarisation.
Dr Joseph Mar Thoma, Metropolitan of Mar Thoma Church, presided the function. Mr Jacob Punnose, Director General of Police, who is also an alumni of the school, delivered the keynote address.
