Minister for Animal Husbandry C. Divakaran has said that a super-speciality veterinary hospital should be set up in the State.
He was addressing a meeting on Wednesday evening to inaugurate a new building for the District Veterinary Centre and the Central Veterinary Store in the Paravattani Veterinary Complex.
“Animal husbandry has been a marginalised discipline in the State. In contrast, in all major countries, it is an important sector with comprehensive research and development activities,” he said. He said the State would be self-sufficient in milk production towards the end of 2011.

“Milk shortage has been reduced from 6 lakh litres to 3 lakh litres. When high-tech dairy farms being set up in Mattupetty, Kolahalamedu and Kulathupuzha are to become fully operational, milk production in the State will climb. The price of cattlefeed can be regulated when three new centres are set up for its production,” he added.
The new building has been constructed using Rs. 25 lakhs granted by the State Government and Rs. 21 lakhs sanctioned by the District Panchayat.
Those present on the occasion included Revenue Minister K. P. Rajendran; and District Panchayat president Ambady Venu.
