Prathyasha Foundation, an NGO, has urged the government to adopt differently abled friendly measures in tourism sector. Initiatives for the differently abled would help improve tourism in general and medical tourism in particular, its founder and chairman Simon George told The Hindu .

He said infrastructure to cater to the need of differently abled tourists would be beneficial to the aged as well. There were a number of aged and differently abled foreigners who would like to visit the State. There could be a quantum jump in the number of such tourists if adequate measures were in place.

Medical tourism would flourish if necessary infrastructure was available for them at hospitals and hotels.

The organisation has launched a campaign called ‘Barrier-free India’, aimed at breaking the barriers of disability. A documentary film Barrier-free India , produced by the foundation, has been released. Differently abled artists have been performing at various places to focus on the issue.
