CPI(M), BJP instigating violence in Kannur: MP

Congress leader Mullappally Ramachandran, MP, has said that some Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders are trying to instigate bloodshed in the district.

‘‘Some of the CPI(M) and BJP leaders are merchants of death and they are trying to turn Kannur again into a killing field," the MP said in a statement here on Tuesday. He said that provocative statements of some leaders in either party were bringing back the district into a state of violence.

Appeared adamant

These leaders appeared to be adamant that they would not allow the police to function in a fearless and just manner to ensure rule of law, he said. Referring to the CPI(M)’s protest against the invocation of the Kerala Anti-social Activities (Prevention) Act (KAAPA), Mr. Ramachandran said the CPI(M) leaders’ stand that KAAPA should not be applied against political workers could not be acceptable.

Civil society could not accept the stand that criminals and hired goons be treated as political workers.

He urged the police to unearth bombs and weapons by conducting raids and bring before law the leaders who were responsible for amassing weapons.

The MP said that murderous politics in the district could be brought to an end if Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and BJP State president Kummanam Rajasekharan took the initiative in this regard.
