Former Minister and Communist Marxist Party (CMP) leader M.V. Raghavan died at the Pariyaram Medical College Hospital on Sunday. He was 81.
The veteran leader, who had formed the breakaway CMP after his expulsion from the Communist Party of India (Marxist) in 1985, died at the hospital on Sunday morning. He was admitted to hospital on November 8 evening after his health condition worsened. The hospital sources said that he suffered cardiac arrest at around 9 a.m. His kidneys and liver also stopped functioning, they said.
He had served as Minister in the United Democratic Front government in 1991 and 2001. The veteran leader had not been active in politics for some time due to ill health.

He had been the founder chairman of the Pariyaram Medical College in the co-operative sector. He had also founder the Pappinissery Visha Chikitsa Society which currently runs a snake park and an Ayurveda medical college, among others.
His son-in-law E. Kunhiraman said that the body will be kept at the medical college hospital till 4 p.m. It will be taken to his residence at Payyambalam in the evening. On November 10, the body will kept for public viewing at the CMP office at 8-30 a.m. before it is taken for cremation at Payyambalam cremation ground at 11 a.m.
