CBI seeks 3 more months to complete probe on Muthoot murder case

The CBI sought 3 more months time on Friday to complete the investigation in the murder of Paul Muthoot George, the scion of the multi crore Muthoot Group, saying the probe was in final stages.

The CBI, in a petition moved by Nandakumaran Nair, Additional SP before the Kerala high court, submitted that further investigation of the case by Special Investigation Team (SIT) of CBI was in ‘active progress’.

The police had earlier arrested 25 accused in the case and after CBI took over, 3 more were arrested. Two knives were also recovered by CBI. It claimed to have collected evidences of 201 witnesses and 127 documents during investigation of the case which is in final stages.

CBI said 3 more months was required to complete the collection and analysis of scientific evidence.

The case had been handed over to CBI by the high court on a petition by M. G. George, chairman of Muthoot Group and Paul’s father expressing dissatisfaction with the police probe.

Paul, Executive Director of Muthoot group which has diverse interests in Finace and Hospitality sectors, was killed by an armed gang on the wee hours of Aug 22 last year at Alapuzha.
