Believers’ Church general assembly begins today

The general assembly of Believers Church will begin at St. Thomas Nagar at Kuttapuzha near Thiruvalla on Monday.

The Metropolitan of the church, K.P. Yohannan, will inaugurate the general assembly at 9 am. Dr Philipose Mar Chrysostum, senior Metropolitan of Mar Thoma Church, will deliver the benedictory speech on the occasion.

Union Minister, Oscar Fernadez, will be the guest of honour and Dr Thomas Mar Coorilos, Archbishop of Thiruvalla, will deliver the keynote address. Prof P.J.Kurien, Rajya Sabha member, Mr Anto Antony, MP, Mr Mathew T.Thomas, Mr Raju Abraham, Mr K.C.Rajagopalan, MLAs and Mr Cherian Polachirackal, municipal chairman, will also address the function.

Union Minister of State for Human Resources, D.Purandewari, will inaugurate the free education scheme for children sponsored by the church, later, at 10 am.

Ms. Nirmala Fenn, national chairperson of Young Women’s Christian Association, will inaugurate the women’s assembly to be held on Tuesday forenoon and Dr Valsan Thambu, principal of St Stephen’s College, New Delhi, will inaugurate the youth meet on Wednesday.

A jubilee rally will be held from BCRS Road to St Thomas Nagar, followed by cultural programmes on on January 9 and the general assembly will come to a close with a holy qurbana at the St Thomas Cathedral at Kuttapuzha on January 10 forenoon.
