Ammonium nitrate unearthed in raid following Nazir's lead

The police unearthed ammonium nitrate, from the compound of a house at Chakkarakkal in Kannur in a raid conducted on Thursday, following information obtained from the interrogation of suspected Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist Thadiyantavide Nazir and Shafas Shamsuddin.

The police said the chemical used for making explosives were recovered from the compound of the house of an Afsal at Chakkarakka, in a raid by the police team. Afsal (28) was arrested in the morning. The raid is still continuing.

Apart from Afsal, the police also nabbed Muthallib (34) near Taliparamba. The duo had links with Nazir. The police had nabbed Sharafuiddin (37) and Rahanas (28) on Wednesday. Police sources said they were being interrogated in the wake of disclosures by Nazir and Samsuddin during their interrogation in Bangalore.

They also said the suspected associates of Nazir nabbed by the police here were allegedly involved in collection and distribution of explosive materials.
