All set for Pravesanotsavam

Arrangements have been made for the district-level Pravesanotsavam, the formal ceremony of receiving children at schools, at Mathamangalam Government High School near Kallur on Wednesday.

I.C. Balakrishnan, MLA, will inaugurate the programme at 10 a.m. District Collector Kesavendrakumar will be the chief guest .

Addressing a press conference here, C. Raghavan, Deputy Director of Education, and T.K. Abbas Ali, District Project Officer, Sarva Siksha Abhiyan (SSA), said the Education Department was expecting 10,250 new students this academic year, including 20 to 25 per cent new students from the Scheduled Tribes.

As many as 9,756 new students, including 2,589 Scheduled Tribe and 455 Scheduled Caste children, had enrolled in schools in the district previous year, Mr. Raghavan said.

Various projects

The department in association with the district panchayat and SSA implemented various projects such as Gothra Vidya, a year-long project to ensure better education to all tribal children; Samanwayam and Orukkam projects to attract children in the age group of 6 to 14 to nearby schools and ensure quality education to all children, he said. Apart from this, special focus would be given to tackle the dropout of tribal children from schools, he added.
