Achuthanandan's remarks baseless: Basheer

July 26, 2010 06:36 pm | Updated 06:36 pm IST - Kasaragod:

Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) vice-president Thalekunnil Basheer has termed “baseless” the reported adverse remarks made by Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan against the Muslim community. He said the remarks by Mr. Achuthanandan went against the traditions of the State and the Communist Party of India (Marxist).

Mr. Achuthanandan's remark that Kerala would be turned into a Muslim State in 20 years time was baseless as the Muslim community in the State had the insight to differentiate between religion and politics, Mr. Basheer told reporters here.

The Chief Minister's remark was an insult to the traditions of Kerala and the ideology of the Left party, he said.

The KPCC leader was here to flag off a vehicular march organised by the pro-Congress Government School Teachers Union as part of mobilising public support to “expose the flawed education policies of the Left Democratic Front government.”
