Schools in the State affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) turned in an impressive performance in the All India Secondary School Examination for the academic year 2012-13, the results of which were published in Chennai on Sunday evening.
The Kerala region registered a pass percentage of 99.96.
A release issued by the CBSE, Regional Office, Chennai, said 65,893 of the 65,919 students who appeared for the Class 10 examinations had qualified for admission to the next level and 26 students had been declared eligible for improvement of performance.

As many as 35,193 boys and 30,726 girls appeared for the examination. The State occupies the second slot in pass percentage after Goa, which secured 100 per cent.
Commenting on the performance, Sudhershan Rao, Regional Director, CBSE, Chennai Region, told The Hindu over the phone that students from the State had done better than that in the previous years and many students had secured excellent grades.

Statistics released by the regional office revealed that the State had 880 schools affiliated to the CBSE, the highest in the Chennai region. Of them, 836 are in the private sector.
Candidates seeking verification of marks must apply within 21 days. June 21 is the last date to apply for improvement of performance for the July 16 examination, the release said.
The students will be given a certificate of continuous and comprehensive evaluation based on their performance in Class IX as well as in Class X.
Continuous assessment
The performance is assessed in a continuous and comprehensive manner encompassing their achievements in scholastic and co-scholastic areas.
The overall performance is reflected in individual subjects in the form of grades — A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2 and D.
Candidates falling within the range of A1 to D are given the results as qualified for admission to higher classes and those obtaining E1 and E2 are eligible for improvement of performance.
