4 kg of gold biscuits seized from passenger

In the biggest gold seizure at the Thiruvananthapuram International Airport this year, Customs officials confiscated four kg of gold biscuits from a passenger who arrived from Dubai on Saturday.

According to sources, the passenger, Ahammed Gudde Jamsheed, who hails from Kasaragod, was nabbed by officers of the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) led by S. Pradeep Kumar, Intelligence Assistant Commissioner, after he arrived by the IndiGo Airlines flight 6E 038 at 5.30 p.m.

The gold biscuits, which are estimated to be worth ₹1.25 crore, were found to be concealed within the luggage.

The passenger, who was taken into custody, is being questioned and will be produced at court at a later stage, official sources said. Other members of the Customs team were Assistant Commissioner N. Hareendranathan, Intelligence Superintendent S. Seetharaman, and other officers including C. Gopirajan, T.S. Sajeev, G. Raju, and Ziad Hasim.
