175th anniversary fete of CSI church begins

The role of churches in the field of education, especially English education, has been immense, Revenue Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhkrishnan has said.

The Minister was inaugurating the 175th anniversary celebrations of the Holy Emmanuel CSI Church at Mallappally on Sunday. He said religious leaders and organisations should take a lead role in infusing moral and ethical values in the younger generation, making them more socially responsible.

Bishop Thomas Samuel of the Church of South India presided over the inaugural function. Bishop Thomas K. Oommen dedicated the anniversary projects of the church on the occasion.

P.J. Kurien, Rajya Sabha member, released the souvenir brought out by the church and Anto Antony, MP, delivered the keynote address. Mathew T. Thomas, MLA, Joseph M. Puthusserry, former MLA, Lt. General Thomas Mathew, Fr. Mathew Elanjickal, parish priest, Fr. T.U. Paulose, clergy secretary, Fr. Kuruvila George, treasurer, and T.V.Cherian, general convener of the programme committee, also spoke.

Bishop Thomas K. Oommen inaugurated the jubilee memorial in-patient block of the Rev. George Mathew Memorial Hospital attached to the church on the occasion.
