Kerala Congress (B) leader R. Balakrishna Pillai has said that certain statements critical of religious rituals in the Muslim and Christian communities attributed to him in sections of the media are totally baseless. He at the same time said: “still if any sections feel hurt, I express regret for the same”.

Addressing mediapersons at Kottarakara on Tuesday evening, Mr. Pillai said that he was expressing regret for something he had not said. “Defaming the Left Democratic Front could be the aim behind this mischief,” he said, alleging that it could be a game plan to label him as an enemy of the minority communities.

Mr. Pillai said that a good part of his political career was kept aside for championing the rights of the minority communities.

“Against this backdrop, such an allegation against me has deeply hurt me and the past two days were among the most painful days in my life. I am not an insane person to compare namaz rituals with the barks of street dogs,” he said.
