The Aam Aadmi Party leader , who suffered a swollen eye, said the attacks were planned by his political opponents.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Tuesday alleged a “larger conspiracy” behind a series of attacks on its leader Arvind Kejriwal after he was slapped by an autorickshaw driver in the Sultanpuri area in north-west Delhi.

Mr. Kejriwal, who suffered a swollen eye, said the attacks were planned by his political opponents. “I do not understand why some resort to violence for becoming Prime Minister. If you think by attacking us you will keep us quiet, then you are wrong,” he said.

Lali, the attacker, garlanded the AAP leader before hitting him. Mr. Kejriwal sought no action against Lali and again refused to have security. The BJP called the attack “a scripted one.” The Congress called it an “expression of anger” by the people of Delhi. Both the parties condemned the assault.
