Journalists taken for a ride at airport

January 11, 2014 02:34 am | Updated May 13, 2016 08:42 am IST - NEW DELHI:

A large media contingent, awaiting the arrival of Indian diplomat Devyani Khobragade who landed at the Indira Gandhi International Airport here late on Friday night, was taken for a ride when it was announced that she had left the airport through another exit.

Coming out of the arrival area of the airport around 10.30 p.m. her father Uttam Khobragade confirmed his daughter’s arrival and said she had left for Maharashtra Sadan in another car.

Earlier, after being indicted for visa fraud and asked to leave the United States, Ms. Khobragade, a 1999-batch Indian Foreign Services Officer, boarded a Delhi-bound United Airlines flight from Newark.

‘Fine and happy to be back’

Mr. Khobragade, accompanied by a family member, said his daughter was “fine and happy to be back” and he himself was moved by the love and affection from the people.

His brief response was similar to what he said during the day when he thanked the Union government and the media for their support during the “crisis” his family found itself in.

The duo then boarded an official car with a red beacon and left for Maharashtra Sadan.
