Jaya Bachchan files papers for RS poll

Film actor Jaya Bachchan on Saturday filed her nomination papers for the Rajya Sabha election as a Samajwadi Party (SP) candidate in the presence of the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Akhilesh Yadav and senior party leaders.

Two sets of nomination papers were submitted by Ms. Bachchan. She is the sixth SP candidate to have submitted papers for the biennial polls to the Rajya Sabha, which if required will be held on March 30.

The Bharatiya Janata Party's Vinay Katiyar also submitted his papers.

In all, 10 nominations have been filed for the 10 seats for which elections are to be held. Nominations close on March 19.

According to the details of moveable and immoveable assets submitted by Ms. Bachchan, the Samajwadi candidate and her spouse, matinee idol Amitabh Bachchan are easily the leading couple of Bollywood. While they have Rs. 94,246 and Rs. 1,07,092 respectively as cash in hand, Ms. Bachchan has Rs. 3,97,12,952 in deposits in bank accounts and Mr. Bachchan, Rs. 96,03,51,572.

The couple possess a fleet of cars with Ms. Bachchan owning a Toyota Qualis and a Toyota Lexus. Her husband owns a Rolls Royce, Mercedes 350, Mercedes 350L, Porsche Cayman, Toyota Qualis, Toyota Innova, Mahendra Bolero, a Mahendra Scorpio and a tractor.

The Bachchan couple own agricultural land in Sevaniya Goud village, Hujur tehsil in Bhopal district; Pargana Kakori village, Muzaffarnagar tehsil in Lucknow district; and, village Daulatpur in Fatehpur Tehsil of Barabanki district of Uttar Pradesh. The total approximate current market value of the land is Rs. 7,90,00,000.

The couple also possess non-agricultural land in Noida, Bavla Taluka in Ahmedabad district and Plot Number 15, Prateeksha in Juhu Vile Parle Development Scheme, Mumbai.
